We'll be staying in our Lola's house here in Sucat for Christmas vacation. Oh, our aunt arrived last Sunday! Hooray! Okay, moving on.. When I woke up this morning, my aunt told me that we will be giving out food to some street children outside their subdivision. I thought, "What a nice way to celebrate Christmas?" I was so excited. When I went downstairs, Lola was cooking the spahgetti already. My Ninong was slicing some hotdogs, me and my brother helped in slicing the hotdogs. When the cooking was done, I helped put some bread in the styro plates. My brother arranged them in the plastic and our helper arranged the tetra packs of juice. My mom and dad arrived from Laguna then. They were shocked to see us assembling everything. Nice. :D When everything was good to go, we left the house.
Each of us in the car had an assignment. My dad was the driver, Janine and my aunt were in the front to distribute, so as me and my Ninong in the middle. Justin was at the back in charge of the food, he will give some to us if needed. So there, we gave a traffic enforcer one on the way. Then we were outside Ever Supermarket and we gave some to the poor children roaming around. We did the same thing at the Puregold Supermarket. We didn't really have an itinerary, we just looked for people. But what it really came down to was when we were on the way home. We saw many children in one area. We went there, expecting that many will come to us. I was scared at first, thinking that maybe a riot will start or something, even if they were just little children. We gave some to the about 6 children we saw. They all screamed, "Thank you po!" then went off running, I heard them shouting, "Yehey! May pagkain kami!". They called the others and went running to us too. But they didn't know what our car looked like, all of them ran past us! We were laughing, we thought, "Oh, maybe it's not us they're looking for." But when our car came to a stop, they ran toward us. We opened the windows and they went wild! Pushing each other, we kept telling them that we won't give anything if they didn't form a line. But still, they were all so eager to get one! I pity the little ones who were at the back because the teenagers were getting the food when our priority was them. My Ninong said to my dad that we should just go because it's starting to get crowded. So my dad did exactly that. But after a while my aunt said that we should go back for those little children. She said, "Nakakaawa naman yung mga bata dun, naunahan sila ng matatanda." I agreed. So my dad turned and when we arrived, it seemed like they all settled down. We saw the little ones in one corner, away from those who got some food. We went to them and gave them the food that's left. They all said "Thank you po!" with a big smile in their faces. :) It's nice to see that, when with the older ones, they didn't even care to say thank you. They were even asking for more. But at least we get to help the less fortunate, especially those children.
There were only 5 packs left and we decided to go home. We're all tired from all those screaming kids. =)) This is a first for us. Not only was that fun, we get to help people in our own little ways in the spirit of Christmas. That's what it's all about, right? Giving. :)
* It's Christmas Eve! Only a few hours before Christmas! I can't wait!
